Bengali cinema has experimented extensively with Tagore’s stories, novels, plays, poems, songs, in the language of cinema through music, sound, dialogue, acting, editing and visuals. A film based on, adapted from, interpreted from Tagore’s novel or short story or poem offers infinite scope for argument, discussion, analysis, debate and questions among audience, critics and scholars across the world. Tagore’s works offer a challenge to the filmmaker to make the film at least as powerful, credible and appealing as on film as it is through the written word.
